A Quick Overview of the Internet

The Internet has greatly changed the life of us humans and it is considered the greatest breakthrough since the telephone. In fact, it continues to evolve throughout the years. Here is a quick overview of the Internet's humble beginning.

The origin of the Internet is when packet-switching networks came into operation during the 1960s. These networks allow a single signal to be routed to a number of users. That signal can be compressed for speed and encrypted for security. However, computers by that time were primitive structures.

The early networks were set up in Europe, but later on, the improvements of similar systems began in America during 1968. Furthermore, a network protocol emerged from 1969 to 1982, but it was replaced now with TCP/IP. Afterwards, a lot of strategies came up. Hence, the rise of large-scale Internet started. Moreover, e-mail services started. Then in 1973, the first international connection was made in a certain university in England.

The introduction of personal computers was in the late 70s, in which the lives of hundreds of people were changed. It is not surprising then that the Internet exponentially grew. In the year 1991, the World Wide Web was known. Fortunately, the researchers got interested and started to create websites and browsers. It was during the year 1993 that Mosaic, the first proper Web browser, took the Internet by storm. Quickly, a lot of services were set up for domain registration and sites began to turn up on the Web through the use of the coding language HTML.

Then fast forward to today - the Web has become an indispensable tool for business, education, entertainment, and basically for everyone!
